Redefining Beauty

Redefining Beauty

http://www.dove.us/#/cfrb/

Dove, the famous maker of hygiene products for women, launched a wonderful campaign in 2004.

The campaign is called, Campaign for Real beauty.

Society is bombarded with images that define what we as women should look like, dress like and act like, but the most affected are our daughters. Young girls, as the commercial reminds us, are under a tremendous amount of pressure to conform to these pressures to be dangerously thin, scantily clad and non accountable for our actions.

A global study was done, which promted Dove to take action, to find out views on beauty, the media and social responsibilty. The report revealed that 81% of women feel that the media sets unrealistic standards but only 2% of women would label themselves as beautiful. So although we know that achieving "socially acceptable" standards of being a women are slim to none, we refuse to look at ourselves and say, you know what, screw what "they" say- I am perfect as I am.

If you have daughters, or maybe you have low self esteem, you should check out Dove's site as it offers help to make sure self esteem isn't an issue via new ideals, online tools, and even workshops. More results of this study can also be found on the site. I would think every person will feel ashamed that it has been allowed to continue for so long.
